God has a new gift to journalism!
Filipino journalist Sheila Coronel has just been named dean of Academic Affairs at the über prestigious Columbia Journalism School.
According to the school’s website, it was Dean Steve Coll who made the announcement today. Coronel, co-founder and director of the nonprofit Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, “will assume the role on July 1, 2014.”
Apart from PCIJ, Coronel has also authored quite a number of books, written for The New York Times and The Guardian, and “received numberous awards and widespread recognition of her work”, including a Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2003.
Prior to this appointnment, she was executive director of the Tony Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism, also at Columbia.
Congrats, gurl.
