Filipina helper in Kuwait jumps off 6th floor after she was caught stealing from her employer

A Filipino domestic helper in Kuwait has been hospitalised after she jumped out of her employer’s flat on the sixth floor of their building. The helper’s employer had caught her allegedly stealing KD110 (about PHP19,000), and she attempted to escape because she was scared of the police authorities.

“I know how angry they can be. When they threatened to call the police, I was scared. I don’t know what to do because I don’t want to be arrested,” the domestic helper said in a report by the Kuwait Times.

According to the woman, she had accidentally burned her male employer’s pants, which she kept hidden in her cabinet. When her employer inspected her belongings to look for the pants, he found the the stolen money.

The helper claimed that she was mistreated after the incident. She was whipped and wasn’t allowed to leave her employer’s flat since the discovery of the theft.

To make things more complicated,  a local recruiter allegedly assited the helper in using a  fake identity to be employed overseas. She has been with working in Kuwait since Aug 2016 under a fake name and passport.

The Filipina is believed to be from Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao. She admitted that she is only 17 years old.

According to a representative of the Philipppine Embassy, the woman “cannot move her leg” and “had a surgery on her left eye” but the woman’s identity and the details of the incident have yet to be verified.

The Filipina will not file complaints against her employer. However, police authorities had filed a case of suicide against her.
