A 30-year-old Filipino woman died yesterday night after she fell from her apartment in a suspected window-cleaning accident.
The woman fell from her seventh-floor flat on Tung Choi Street in Mong Kok at around 10pm last night and landed on a canopy on the second floor, reports Oriental Daily. Her husband notified the Fire Services Department and emergency services, who retrieved the woman from the canopy and rushed her to Kwong Wah Hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
While the Filipino woman was not identified as a domestic helper, the South China Morning Post reports at least four incidents involved foreign domestic workers falling from window washing prompted a call for a law banning employers requiring domestic workers to do window cleaning in high rise buildings for contracts signed after 2017.
Preliminary investigations by the police revealed no suspicious circumstances. According to local media reports, the deceased was believed to have been cleaning her apartment windows at the time of the accident.
