The Filipino-Indian businessman suspected to have been involved in a hit-and-run in Makati earlier this month was intercepted at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport over the weekend.
Senior Superintendent Manuel Lukban, chief of the Makati City police, said Rajiv Ramesh Dargani was stopped at the NAIA on Sunday. Dargani was on a watchlist kept by the Bureau of Immigration. Immigration agents called Lukban to verify whether they were holding the same man who allegedly killed a tricycle driver in an accident.
“I told them (Immigration agents) that we cannot prevent him from leaving as no arrest warrant has been issued against him even though he has already been inquested,” Lukban said in a Philippine Star report.
It is unclear whether Dargani left the country after being held by the Bureau of Immigration. Lukban said, though, that if Dargani flees the country, the court would have justification to issue a warrant for his arrest.
“He would be arrested once he stepped back into the country. He has promised to surrender and we are still waiting for him to do so,” the Makati police chief said.
