A Las Vegas spa is being shut down after one of its workers was found dead in the premises.
Filipino-American Chelsea Ake Salvacion, 24, was found lifeless inside a liquid nitrogen cryogenic chamber where it’s believed she froze to death. Salvacion worked at the Rejuvenice spa. There are speculations that after her shift, she had taken a dip in one of the facility’s cryotherapy tanks.
For the record, cryotherapy involves the lowering of the body’s temperature in order flush out toxins or repair damage.
Investigators are now trying to find out what really happened on the night of Oct 20 inside Rejuvenice spa’s cryogenic chamber, which was designated for its cryotherapy sessions. Reports citing Salvacion’s family members reveal that she was found frozen solid.
In a phone interview with Balitang America, Lee Inoue, Salvacion’s boyfriend of eight years, recalls how he found out about her death. Inoue lived with Salvacion in Las Vegas earlier this year. However, moved to Hawaii for a job. They last saw each other two months ago, when he visited her in Las Vegas.
“I received a message from her co-worker to call her on Tuesday so I called her co-worker and find out what was going on, and that was when they told me they found her that morning,” Inoue said.
He insists Salvacion was experienced in operating the cryogenic chamber and does not believe it was operator error that led to her death.
“I don’t think that was her fault at all. She’s been doing that on a daily basis. She worked 10, 12, hour days there, multiple times a week, she sought endless amount of clients,” he said.
Salvacion’s was brought o Hawaii and a memorial service for her was held on Thu, Oct 29, at Nuuanu mortuary.
Meantime, the State of Nevada Department of Business and Industry: Division of Industrial Relations Workers Compensation Section closed down the two locations of the Rejuvenice Spa.
The notice outside posted on the door says that the facility failed to secure and maintain mandatory workers compensation insurance. Officials say it had no license to operate. (Read more on Balitang America.)
