How can someone with such an endearing smile turn so violent?
The sweet, skillful Fil-Am charmer we love from Season 9 of Top Chef, Paul Qui was arrested for beating up his girlfriend on Saturday, Mar 19.
According to a report by American website Kxan, Qui’s friends called the police as they heard banging and screaming from his apartment. The police caught Qui with blood all over his arms, face, and even clothes.
The victim, his girlfriend, was said to have been sleeping beside her son when Qui woke her up and invited her to join a house party involving drugs and alcohol. After the victim took a few drinks, the intoxicated Qui accused her of flirting with his friends.
“Qui is very controlling and extremely jealous,” she told the police.
When the victim tried to leave with her son, Qui became very violent. He began throwing her against the walls and telling her that she wasn’t going anywhere.
The celebrated chef and restaurateur was charged with unlawful restraint and assault causing bodily injury to a family member.
Paul Qui operates a restaurant in Austin called Qui. Before becoming a chef, he sold drugs to fund his way through culinary school.
