One of the United States’ most wanted fugitives was arrested in Manila Saturday night after eight years of hiding in the Philippines.
“After eight years of hiding in the Philippines, US-Filipino citizen Peter Leus, who is accused of defrauding New Vista Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Jersey of US$1.7 million, was nabbed in his house in Sta. Ana at about 8pm on Saturday, Jan 11,” reports Aie Balagtas See in The Philippine Star.
Ironically, Leus was about to go to church and had just opened the house gate when he was arrested. Leus had fled to the Philippines after the Superior Court in Mercer County ordered his arrest in 2005. He will be deported and will face theft by deception and money laundering charges. While he awaits deportation, Leus will be detained at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group office in Cavite.
