Female passenger says Grab driver allegedly kissed her without consent

A Grab driver is in hot water after allegedly harassing a female passenger on Wed morning, Dec 21.

The female victim filed a complaint after the driver supposedly kissed her during a booked trip to her home in Caloocan. She was seated on the front passenger seat.

“Noong una, okay naman, tapos nakatulog ako. Tapos nung malapit na sa amin, nagsalita siya, sabi niya, ‘Dito na tayo.’ Tapos pagkadilat ko, yung lips niya atsaka lips ko magkadikit na,” she said.

(‘At first, everything was okay, then I fell asleep. When we were near home, he said, ‘Dito na tayo.” When she opened her eyes, his lips was on my lips.’)

According to ABS-CBN News, the driver reportedly offered to waive the fare if the victim doesn’t file a complaint.

Grab Philippines Country Head Brian Cu said that the driver has been suspended while waiting for the outcome of the investigations. He promised that Grab will cooperate with the Philippine National Police and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Cu asked the public not to “discount the good work [of] other Grab drivers” based on an “isolated incident.”

Meanwhile, Police Chief Insp. Moner Orang, station commander of Police Community Precinct 2 in Caloocan said that passengers should stay awake and alert.

“Dapat po laging gising, kasi at least maiwasan natin whatever incident. Kasi tulad nun, nakatulog siya, pag gising niya hinalikan na siya ng driver. We will make sure na mapatawag din kung sino yung may ari ng Grab taxi na yun,” he said.

(‘Please stay awake to avoid similar incidents. In this case, she fell asleep, and when she woke up, the driver was kissing her. We’ll make sure to summon whoever owns that Grab taxi.’)
