In the Philippines, many still don’t understand that individuals with autism can be high functioning, which makes them suitable for employment.

It’s good to see that a major shopping chain has taken the initiative to provide job opportunities for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

On its Facebook page, Autism Society of the Philippines shared photos of three workers recently hired by Savemore in SM Light Mall, Mandaluyong.

Carlo, Karl and Matt were the pioneer batch of individuals with autism employed by SM. The three are graduates of Independent Living Learning Center, a school for people with special needs.

They were shown wearing staff uniform as they dilligently did their task of fixing grocery items.

The move is getting positive feedback from netizens who are expressing their support through the post’s comments section.

According to Manila Bulletin, the government encourages private corporations with more than 100 employees to reserve at least one percent of all positions for individuals with special needs.

The partnership is supported by the Autism Society of the Philippines Career Placement Initiative. To know more about their programs, you may follow their Facebook page.
