Be careful what you bathe with.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning the public against using unlabeled bars of soap.
“The FDA requires all cosmetic products, including soap bars, to comply with the notification and labeling requirements as per ASEAN Cosmetic Directives, which was adopted by the FDA,” reports Jonathan M. Hicap in the Manila Bulletin.
The report explained that “the ACD notification is a requirement to determine if there are any banned or unapproved ingredients that are used by manufacturers in preparing soap bars, among other toiletries and cosmetics.”
Plus, under Republic Act 9711 or the FDA Act of 2009, “the sale, importation, exportation, offering for sale, distribution, promotion, or advertisement of adulterated, unregistered or misbranded health product is prohibited.”
Maybe it’s time to start making our own soaps.
