Farmer, teen helper arrested while trying to transport 167 kilos of marijuana

Some of the marijuana haul was most likely headed for Metro Manila.

“Farmer Elvin Consulta, 42, and his teenage helper (still a minor) were arrested by anti-narcotics operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) at a checkpoint in La Union, as they were transporting 167 kilos of marijuana in red Toyota Innova,” reports Dennis Carcamo on Philstar.com.

The PDEA operatives had acted on a tip from an informant.

Consulta is temporarily detained at the PDEA Regional Office 1’s jail facility. He is facing charges for violating Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. His teen helper, meanwhile, was turned over to the San Gabriel Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
