Three members of a family in Luisiana, a town in Laguna province, died over the weekend after going on a four-day lambanog drinking spree with their friends.
A local wine made from the fermented sap of a coconut tree, lambanog is not for the faint-hearted. Food website Pepper.ph reported that its alcohol content is around 40 – 45 percent, which means it shouldn’t be messed with. So it’s not surprising that the family’s lambanog binge ended tragically.
Radyo Inquirer identified the three as Michelle Faustino, her partner Roland Gradia, and his aunt Sonia Gardia.
According to GMA News’ Balitambayan, the three threw up and excreted blood uncontrollably before they passed away.
Based on their death certificates, Faustino and Roland died of alcohol overdose. But according to Radyo Inquirer, family members believe that Sonia was deliberately poisoned, despite the fact that she had been drinking lambanog for days.
The police are now investigating if there was poison mixed into the drink while trying to determine where it was purchased.
Yup, there’s a reason why alcohol companies tell customers they should “drink moderately.”
