Fake traffic enforcers try to extort money from undercover cop

Two men pretending to be traffic enforcers were arrested earlier this week for trying to extort PHP300 fom an undercover police officer.

According to the Philippine National Police, Eastwood Police Station sent an undercover cop to check on reports that two men in traffic enforcer’s uniforms were spotted on Temple Drive in Ugong Norte in Quezon City.

When the undercover police officer got to Temple Drive, he was flagged down by the two enforcers who offered to let him go for a bribe of PHP300. The arresting team moved in as soon as money changed hands, the PNP said.

Arrested in the operation were Nicolas Lozada and Bernie Grageda, both from Barangay Bagumbayan. Police confiscated expired identification cards from Quezon City’s traffic enforcement unit.

The arrest was part of a follow-up operation based on information from four fake enforcers police arrested in another part of the city. The PNP said the fake enforcers told them they had accomplices who were extorting money from motorists too.

The two face charges of Robbery Extortion and Usurpation of Authority.
