Fake SSS check discovered in La Union

Fake evacuees, check. Fake soldiers, check. Fake government documents, check. Fake pension checks, check!

“The Social Security System warned the public, particularly small business establishments, against individuals passing off fake checks supposedly issued by the pension fund,” reports Zinnia dela Pena in The Philippine Star.

The pension fund said it received a report from its La Union office where “a fake check amounting to PHP9,000 was encashed at a grocery store.” It had unauthorized signatories and two different sets of account numbers. It also did not have the payee’s SSS number which appears in the official check.
