Anyone who’s gone shopping in Greenhills or the streets of Divi knows that there is no shortage of fake items in sold in Manila. Some are uncannily similar to the originals, but sold for dirt cheap prices.
Yesterday, Customs personnel at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport intercepted several boxes of suspected fake branded shoes, beauty products, and cigarettes in commercial quantity, ABS-CBN News reports.
It was brought in by a Chinese national who arrived on board China Southern Flight CZ 3091 from Guangzhou, China, at NAIA Terminal 1.
There were 30 boxes of suspected fake Adidas shoes, two boxes of beauty products and luggage containing Winston cigarette labels.
Perhaps the guy just wanted to give pasalubong to his entire baranggay, but the Bureau of Customs (BOC) had informed Adidas Philippines of the incident.
“Customs will be conducting a thorough investigation on this matter to determine the purpose of smuggling this cigarette label and suspected fake products,” said Col. Neil Estrella, intelligence officer from the Office of Customs.
