An exclusive report by Marites Dañguilan Vitug and Michael Bueza on Rappler reveals that “Senator Ralph Recto did not complete his two postgraduate degrees, as he claimed in his bio-data.”

Rappler is doing the fact check “as part of its continuing fact-check of educational backgrounds of Philippine senators.” In the past, Rappler had also discovered that Sen. Bongbong Marcos only got a special diploma from Oxford University.

Indeed in Recto’s online Senate bio (see our screengrab below), it says: “Senator Recto has two Master’s Degrees – one in Public Administration from the University of the Philippines, Diliman and another in Strategic Business Economics from the University of Asia and the Pacific.”

Well, to make a very long story short, Rappler discovered that Recto never completed those degrees, even if he may have attended the said programs for some time.

Rappler reportedly emailed Recto about the discrepancy and he was said to have written back: “I plead guilty and I take full responsibility. There was no intention to misrepresent. I’m sorry.”

Rappler also added: “Recto said that the last time he checked his bio-data was possibly when he was a congressman (1992-2001). He asked his staff to make the corrections.”
