There are some things that make you wonder if the world has morphed into some other shape.
A Facebook user is getting bashed for her post on Fri, Jun 24, where she shared photos of a Philippine flying lemur (kagwang) and claimed that it was an animal raised by the aswang in their town.
What is an aswang? “The shape shifter takes on the form of regular folk by day — the shy and weird sari-sari store clerk, the grumpy old bag lady by the plaza, or the least person you’d expect, like your jolly neighbor — and by night morphs into a stealthy ghoul on the prowl for food. Their preferred fare? Internal organs, whole small children, and unborn fetuses,” we wrote last Halloween.

The Facebook user didn’t really disclose her location but insisted that an aswang was wreaking havoc in her town. This was her caption for the photos: “Eto po yung isa sa mga alagang maligno ng aswang sa aming bayan nahuli kanina.”
(“This is one of the malevolent creatures that’s being raised by the aswang in our town and it just got caugt earlier.”)

As of 8pm on Mon, Jun 27, the post has been shared over 6,700 times and has gotten over 4,600 comments. The comments tell the Facebook user that she is mistaken about her “maligno” reference.

However, the Facebook user remains convinced that she is right.
After she got bashed, the Facebook iser stated in a separate post: “Yung iba ang kikitid ng utak. Bahala na nga kayo! Close minded walang alam.”
(“There are some people who are narrow-minded. It’s up to you. You’re all close- minded and know nothing.”)

“Kagwang (Cynocephalus Volans), whose name is derived from a Visayan expression of anger, is labeled by environmental organizations as an ‘endangered species.’ It is found in the Mindanao Faunal Region and in the Eastern Visayan provinces of Bohol, Leyte and Samar. Although the kagwang does not fly and is not classified as a lemur, it is an ‘expert’ at gliding on trees,” reports Gianna Francesca Catolico on Inquirer.net.
