Filipinos usually avoid direct confrontations, so sometimes we rely on a little bit of passive aggressiveness when we’re pissed.
This is why this post which appeared yesterday on a Facebook account called Adulting Philippines resonated with many netizens. The post showed the common email phrases Pinoys love to use — and what they really mean in Filipino.
Here are a few samples from the post. So many netizens thought they were on-point that the post was shared more than 32,000 times.
When we write “Gentle reminder” we actually mean “you’re getting on my nerves.”
“As per my previous e-mail” also means “I already said this the last time [I emailed you].”
“Any update?” means “Hey, it’s already my deadline.”
“Let me know if you need anything” means “I’ve already given you everything you need.”
And finally “Your response will be very much appreciated” means “F*ck, reply.”
Netizens also came up with their own suggestions. Wrote AJ Pangandaman in Filipino and English: “E-mail: With all due respect…. Real Life: F*ck you!”
Eric Cua wrote: “Email: Your response is highly appreciated. Real life: F*ck, answer.”
Alvin Amigo wrote: “Email: on your most convenient time. True life: within the next hour.”
