The stronger El Niño will affect the water supply in Metro Manila, and its impact may be felt next week.
“At the briefing on Metro Manila water supply and El Niño impact mitigation measures, BusinessWorld reporter Claire Feliciano said the current water level at Angat Dam, the main supplier of water for Metro Manila, is at 186.24 meters, a little over its 180-meter operating level,” reports InterAksyon.com.
The report noted: “Government water regulator Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), the situation could lead to reduced water allocation, which in turn could result in lower water pressure and limited supply availability. This means water may be available for only 12 hours or less per day.”
Private concessionaires Maynilad Water and Manila Water said that some of their customers will be affected.
Maynilad said 19% of its customers may experience limited supply availability in parts of Quezon City, north Caloocan, Parañaque, and Valenzuela. For its part, Manila Water said 9% of its customers are expected to be affected by limited supply in parts of Quezon City, Rizal, Marikina, and Pasig.
