Expect traffic jams in the metro until 2016, says MMDA

Wow, really? And here we thought they were going to last forever.

“The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Motorists said on Wednesday, Jan 22, that motorists should brace for traffic jams starting this month until the first quarter of 2016 as at least nine major infrastructure projects get underway,” reports Mike Frialde in The Philippine Star.

According to the report, among the projects expected to severely affect the flow of vehicular traffic in Metro Manila are the following:

1. The Skyway 3 project

2. The Gil Puyat-Pasay Road underpass in Makati

3. The extensions of the Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2

4. The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) elevated expressway

5. The EDSA-Taft flyover

6. The McKinley ramp at the Bonifacio Global

7. The Lawton bridge that would connect Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong with the BGC across the Pasig River.

The MMDA said they will “draw up a traffic management plan to ease the traffic woes.” One of the options they are exploring is the designation of routes similar to the “Christmas lanes” used during the holidays.

Well, this seems to be on point. By 2016, travel time from NLEX-SLEX will only be 20 minutes.
