A blockchain firm is taking church fundraising to a whole new level after launching a cryptocurrency that aims to support grassroots churches in the Philippines and other developing countries.

3lock CEO Jon Blaylock, a former church pastor, launched Ophir, a decentralized digital currency that makes use of the world’s first endowment smart contract on the blockchain.

Ophir is named after a land mentioned in the Bible.

The donation drive, named “Project Ophir Crypto,” entails an international cryptocurrency fundraising campaign to channel donations to the General Mariano Alvarez Fellowship of Christian Churches (GMAFEC), a non-profit based in Cavite. Donors can send USDT, USDC, ETH, SLP, HEX, or TEXAN and will receive $OPHIR as a free gift. GMAFEC will then use the fund to support its activities and provide education to thousands of churches. As rewards for their donation, they will also receive Ophir tokens of no monetary value. However, these may still gain value in the future when Ophir becomes available for trading.

Blaylock said that if churches and organizations learn to adopt blockchain technology, “opportunities for positive transformation are limitless.”

He also emphasized that the potential of churches and other organizations adopting blockchain technology to enhance their impact will be remarkable, pointing out that opportunities for positive transformation are limitless.

“By creating a platform that is easy to use and available to all, we hope to empower people to take control of their finances and unlock their true potential. And by accepting a variety of cryptocurrencies, including ETH, USDC, USDT, SLP HEX, and TXN, we can reach a wider audience and make it easier for you to support our project,” a statement read.
