A former general’s son who gunned down two people along Katipunan Avenue Extension, Barangay White Plains, Quezon City has been linked to another shooting incident along TPLEx last June.

Gerardo Dionisio said Jose Maria Abaya, son of Philippine Constabulary General Antonio Abaya, shot at their patrol car along Tarlac–Pangasinan–La Union Expressway (TPLEx) last June. Dionisio explained that his company, RCJ Security and Investigation Inc., is tasked with maintaining security in the expressway. He said they were attacked by Abaya with no warning or provocation.

Employees inside the vehicle were unhurt although their KIA pick-up bore bullet holes from the shooting.

“June 6, this year, isa po sa aming sasakyang nagpapatrol sa TPLEX, kasi security provider kami ng TPLEx, na-experience namin ‘yung parehong pangyayari sa Katipunan kamakailan,” Dionisio said in an interview over radio dzMM.

He added: “Ganoon din ang pamamaril. Suwerte lang ang tao namin sa loob, di sila tinamaan ng bala. Pero markado pa ng mga balang tumama galing sa baril ni Mr. Abaya.”

Abaya’s Toyota FJ was immediately impounded while Dionisio’s camp charged him with malicious mischief.

Dionisio hopes that justice will be served against Abaya, not only for the incident in TPLEX but also for the White Plains shooting where two died.

Abaya earlier confirmed he shot a UV Express van along Katipunan Avenue Extension at around 7pm on Sep 1. He told police he thought the van was following him and that men inside would put him in a drug rehabilitation center.

Killed in the incident were assistant bank manager Joyce Santos, 41, and driver Ronybert Ycot.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD), meanwhile, is still looking for Joseph Tee See, owner of the gun used by Abaya, after failing to find him in his supposed residence in Malate, Manila.

QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit head C/Insp. Rodel Marcelo said they will release photos of See as soon as records are found.

In the past, Abaya was charged with homicide in October 2012 for the killing of a security guard of a drug rehabilitation center, Silvercrest Foundation, in Parañaque City. Another security guard was reportedly wounded during the incident.

Police investigation showed that Abaya shot dead Roger Biquit and wounded his companion Richard Reyes when they tried to prevent his escape from the rehabilitation facility.

Abaya was also arrested for illegal possession of firearms and illegal drugs in March last year, according to Senior Inspector Elmer Monsalve of the QCPD homicide section.

He tested positive for shabu following his arrest, Monsalve said.
