A woman was killed while two others were injured when a van was riddled with bullets while it was parked on Katipunan Extension in Quezon City about 6:40pm on Tue, Sep 1, police said.

According to security guard John Eric Cuya, he heard several gun shots in the area. He saw the driver and two passengers injured after rushing to the crime scene. Several shell casings from a 9mm caliber pistol were scattered on the crime scene. The three victims were rushed to Medical City in Ortigas.

According to the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU), one of the victims, a woman, has passed away.

Meanwhile, the suspect has surrendered to the authorities. He was identified as Jojo Abaya, a son of Antonio Abaya, a former general in the Philippine Constabulary. He is also reportedly a nephew of former Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Narciso Abaya.

According to initial reports, the suspect had been in and out of rehabilitation and mistakenly thought that the van was sent to take him in.

This was not the first time the suspect was involved in a similar incident. Abaya has a previous record involving the death of a rehabilitation center guard. (with a report by Dennis Datu, dzMM)
