Jose Abaya — the son of a retired Philippine Constabulary general and nephew of former Armed Forces chief Narciso Abaya — is now facing murder charges after shooting dead Jocelyn Santos, a passenger of a UV Express van in Quezon City on Tue night, Sep 1. The charges against the suspect are set to be amended  after wounded driver Ronebert Ycot died on Thu morning, Sep 3.

Another passenger, Duke Angelo David, was also wounded during the shooting.

“Chief Inspector Rodelio Marcelo, head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the Quezon City Police District, said that aside from two counts of murder, Abaya will also be facing frustrated murder and two counts of attempted murder and a illegal gun charge,” reports Dennis Carcamo on Philstar.com.

The report noted: “Marcelo said detectives will invite Joseph See, the registered owner of the cal. 22 gun used by Abaya in shooting down the victims.”

Reports say that Abaya, most likely paranoid as a result of his drug use, began shooting at the van while it was parked along Katipunan Avenue Extension as he thought that it was sent to transport him back to the rehabiltation center.
