This seems to be a familiar scenario.
“A dismissed policeman named Julius Alatraca, 43, was subjected to inquest proceedings after he tried to burn down his house—with his wife and two children still inside—and shooting at police officers and village watchmen,” reports Reinir Padua in The Philippine Star.
According to the report, the incident happened on Saturday, Feb 22, when the barangay tanods went to Alatraca’s house in Barangay Commonwealth on Saturday afternoon to confront him about his eatery, which occupied the sidewalk. That was when he went berserk.
Alatraca shot at the barangay tanods and then locked himself and his family inside their home. At some point, he yelled that he was going to burn down the house and that he didn’t care if his family was inside.
After four hours, Alatraca was apprehended by policemen who barged into the house. They seized his .22 caliber pistol.
He will be charged for attempted homicide, illegal possession of firearms, attempted arson, as well as alarm and scandal.
