Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada was at the Senate on Monday both as an alumnus and as a peacemaker.
Estrada was at the Senate to squash rumors of a rift between his sons Senators Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada and Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito. “I just want to show the public that we are one. I love both of them,” the former President said.
Rumors of a rift were resurrected weeks ago after Ejercito cancelled a scheduled courtesy call on Senator Estrada, then acting Senate President. This came after talk of snubs and hurt feelings during the senatorial campaign.
“You see, they are trying to break the relationship between the two brothers. Blood is thicker than water. They’ll always be together. They have only one purpose and one goal in life – to uplift the life of the less fortunate people of our country,” Mayor Estrada said.
Senator Estrada said he was “elated that he (Ejercito) went up to my office and paid a courtesy call,” adding he gave the former San Juan representative advice “as an elder brother and a senior member of this chamber.”
