Estrada fires MPD station commander over illegal vendors in Tondo

One of Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada’s first acts on his first day on the job was to fire somebody.

According to reports, Estrada relieved the commander of Manila Police District Station 11 for allegedly allowing illegal vendors in the Tondo district in exchange for money.

Estrada said he personally went around Tondo and learned that more than 200 vendors in the area gave up to P100 each every day to Police Superintendent Alexander Navarette and his men.

Police Superintendent Wilson Doromal will replace Navarette as Station 11 chief.

Estrada took his oath of office Sunday. He said in a speech after the ceremony that he would clean up the Manila Police District and promised to make sure the city’s cops are “Manila’s Finest and not Manila’s Worst.”
