Erap’s vow: Manila will be debt-free by 2015

It’s a promise that’s worthy of a movie.

“In his State of the City Address (SOCA) at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, July 23, Manila Mayor Joseph ‘Erap’ Estrada said the local government has improved its revenue collection since he assumed office,” reports Jose Rodel Clapano in The Philippine Star.

As such, Estrada yesterday vowed that the city government would be free from debt by 2015.

Estrada pointed out that “the city’s tax collection has increased by PHP345 million” during his first six months in office.

He added that his governance has been “focused on cleaning up the mess he inherited including a PHP4.5-billion debt.”
