Erap wants to sell Rizal Memorial Sports Complex

Is this a good idea or not?

“On Thursday, July 17, the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) said that Manila Mayor Joseph ‘Erap’ Estrada is pushing for the sale of the 80-year-old Rizal Memorial Sports Complex,” reports Nick Giongco in Manila Bulletin.

POC president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco will meet up with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) so they can “come up with a position paper” that will expedite the sale of the 10-hectare property to the private sector.

The report explained that Cojuangco is “obviously delighted that Estrada has shown keen interest in selling it so the PSC, in partnership with the POC, can realize its dream of building a new training center for the national athletes.”

The report noted: “The Rizal Memorial Sports Complex that has played host to many of the country’s biggest sporting events, including the 1954 Asian Games, several Southeast Asian Games, world title fights, the 1978 World Basketball Championship and even concerts starring The Beatles in July 1966.”
