Erap taps Jinggoy’s former aide for Divisoria makeover project

Some people are so attached to their comfort zones that they bring it with them.

“Saying he was not satisfied with what was being done by Councilor Dennis Alcoreza—who was earlier tasked to turn Divisoria into a lively tourist shopping district similar to Mong Kok in Hong Kong—Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada has given the job to city administrator Simeon Garcia, who is a former Nueva Ecija congressman and chief of staff of his son, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada,” reports Erika Sauler in the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The report noted that Garcia, who now heads Task Force Divisoria, “is just one of the City Hall appointees who had connections either to Estrada’s short-lived presidency or his political roots in San Juan.”

The report went on to enumerate the following “Erap personnel:”

1. Atty. Jay Flaminiano, one of Estrada’s lawyers in his Sandiganbayan plunder trial, now heads the city’s Legal Office.

2. Atty. Edward Serapio, the presidential legal adviser who became Estrada’s co-accused in the plunder case, is now back as Secretary to the Mayor.

3. James Albert Dichaves, the son of another co-accused, businessman Jaime Dichaves, is now director of Manila’s Public Recreations Bureau.

4. Former San Juan vice mayor and professional basketball player Philip Cezar now heads the Manila Sports Council.
