Manila mayor Joseph Estrada had to put his foot down to keep illegal vendors from putting up stalls in the streets of Manila.
Estrada personally appealed to street vendors to remove their stalls from the roads in Blumentritt, C.M. Recto, and Divisoria, GMA News’ Balitanghali reports.
This comes after the Manila mayor demolished the stalls of around 2,000 illegal vendors in Divisoria on Wed, Jul 20.
Complaints from motorists have been piling up on the mayor’s desk about the streets being too cramped due to the shops cramming on the streets, the Balitanghali report adds.
According to Beethena Kae Unite of Manila Bulletin, Estrada gave the vendors 15 days to pack up and leave.
“The streets are for vehicles, not people to sell. We have to obey the law,” he said, noting that “anarchy” on the streets must come to an end.
But the vendors need not worry. The vendors will be given alternatives sites where they can hawk their wares.
