Despite fears that Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada would not be getting a favorable decision from the High Court, he and his followers are pretty happy now.

“The Supreme Court — voting 11-3 — dismissed on Wednesday, January 21, the disqualification case against Estrada,” reports Ira Pedrasa on ABS-CBNnews.com.

The report explained that “the SC upheld the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) that junked the petition of lawyer Alicia Risos-Vidal, who said Estrada’s conviction for plunder effectively disqualified him to run for and hold a public office.”

The report noted: “In that decision, the Comelec said Vidal’s issue is glaringly similar or intertwined with previous disqualification cases in 2010, when Estrada ran for the presidency anew. The same has been dismissed by the High Court.”

For his part, the report pointed out that “Estrada had earlier said he is confident he will remain in hiposition, saying he has a pardon from former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.”
