Environmentalists propose “road sharing” to stop traffic torture

Let’s hope some good comes out of this.

“The Share the Road Movement—joined by medical doctors, environmentalists and concerned citizens—are inviting people demanding clean air and better traffic conditions to support their unprecedented petition to enforce the Road Sharing Principle,” reports Elyse Wynn Go on InterAksyon.com.

The Supreme Court received the group’s petition, which pushes a scheme wherein half of the road space is assigned to all-weather bike lanes and covered sidewalks, while the other half would be for public transportation.

According to the report, the petition “arises from the argument that only two percent of the Philippine population owns vehicles and yet take up almost the entire road, leaving 98 percent of Filipinos with no proper sidewalk, even though everyone pays dues and taxes.”
