Authorities have filed charges against a couple who allegedly attacked them after they were flagged down for a traffic violation in Makati City on Monday.

Makati City Police Chief Senior Supt. Rogelio Simon told SunStar that charges of direct assault were filed by the Magallanes Village’s traffic enforcers against Arnold Padilla and his partner, who remains unidentified.

In a CCTV footage obtained by News5, a black car, which Padilla and his wife were allegedly in, can be seen being followed closely by an SUV with their bodyguards.

According to the traffic enforcers, both vehicles were seen beating the red traffic light. The violation prompted authorities to flag both vehicles down.

After getting into a heated discussion with the couple, one of the bodyguards got off the SUV and reportedly punched the enforcer that had stopped the convoy. The video also shows the woman hitting one of the officers on the head.

Padilla is reportedly notorious in his neighborhood. “This is the same personality that was involved in the gift bomb in 2010,” Simon told SunStar.

In 2010, a woman by the name of Rhea Coroza Dalde allegedly delivered a gift bomb to a woman identified as Yvonne Chua.

According to a report from GMA News, Chua, who turned out to be Padilla’s sister-in-law, was killed after one of five grenades inside the “gift” exploded. Dalde used to work for Padilla as a domestic worker.

Chua’s cousin filed charges against Padilla and his mother Arlene, stating that the killing was due to money-related reasons.
