Energy department needs help naming its e-trike

The Department of Energy needs your help to name the electric tricycle that it hopes will replace gasoline-fed public utility tricycles on the country’s roads.

The contest, which will run from April 16 to 23, is the second in the development of the e-trike. The DOE held a design contest for the e-trike in March last year, picking three from more than a hundred entries.

“This time, we would like to engage public participation in naming the E- Trike, while stirring interest among tricycle owners, operators, and commuters on the advantages of this tricycle,” Energy undersecretary Loreta Ayson said in a department statement.

The winner of the contest, open to all residents of the Philippines, will get P30,000. Nine people will also get a consolation prize of P10,000 each. Entries can be submitted at the e-trike exhibit areas at SM Pasig and SM San Lazaro.

The contest is open to all residents of the Philippines. Official entry forms as well as the drop boxes for these forms are available at the E-trike exhibit area at SM Pasig and SM San Lazaro.

The DOE said switching to e-trikes from regular tricycles could lower the transport sector’s consumption of gasoline by around 89.2 million liters a year. It will also cut down carbon dioxide emissions from tricycles, which contribute 79 percent of CO2 emissions, by 259,008 tons a year.
