Let this be a reminder of how unrequited love can sometimes bring out the monster in the most persistent romantics.
Tragedy stuck Nagcarlan town in Laguna province when a security guard at a courthouse killed the parents of the woman he had been courting before taking his own life, Inquirer reports.
34-year-old suspect Richard Monfero left his post at 5pm on Sun to see 18-year-old Francis Anne Doria, whose house was just across the court building.
According to reports Monfero, was persistent in winning the young lady’s affections. He had been courting her for about a year now, but she didn’t reciprocate.
“[Monfero] would throw chocolates or flowers for the woman over [the family’s] gate. There was one time he threw over some money (amount unknown),” said PO3 case inspector Juanito dela Torre.
Doria simply didn’t like Monfero, her relatives explained.
When the rejection became too much for him to handle, Monfero turned violent.
He went to the victim’s house and started firing his gun. Doria’s 52-year-old mother was hit.
Armed with a knife, Doria’s 55-year-old father stepped out of the house, but he was also hit by Monfero’s bullet.
Doria, who was inside the house when the shooting happened, was hit by a stray bullet.
The suspect refused to surrender, and the authorities had to shoot him in the leg.
However, he shot himself on the chin when he was cornered by the policemen.
Monfero died on the way to the hospital.
