An elderly cab driver was arrested yesterday after he allegedly robbed his Malaysian passenger in Pasay City.
The victim was identified as Tze Chea Kon, 22, while the suspect was identified as Jose Sajul, 61, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.
According to Pasay police, Tze Chea was aboard Sajul’s cab en route SM Mall of Asia when the incident happened, Manila Times reported. When they reached EDSA Extension cor. Sunrise Drive at the Mall of Asia Complex, Sajul allegedly pulled out a knife and forcibly took PHP6,000 (US$115.74) from the victim, Inquirer reported.
“He took a knife and robbed me. He just robbed my money and I gave all my money to him,” the victim told ABS-CBN News.
The driver then ordered Tze Chea to get out the cab. The victim quickly reported the incident to police, which led to the suspect’s arrest in a follow-up operation.
The stolen money didn’t even last long.
Police Capt. Romel Bulan, station commander of Pasay City Police Community Precinct 11, said Sajul gambled away the victim’s money and was on the lookout for his next victim when authorities arrested him.
He will face charges for robbery and violation of the Omnibus Election Code for possession of a deadly weapon.
