What price hair vanity? Well, how about serious eye damage, respiratory irritation, and fertility problems?
The EcoWaste Coalition has asked the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to direct manufacturers to recall hair dye products that contain the chemical sodium perborate, which cause the aforementioned health hazards.
“Apparently, the European Union’s Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Consumer Products said the United Kingdom recalled the brands Bigen Permanent Powder Hair Colour, Blasol Powder Hair Colouring Formula, and JR Beauty Organics Permanent Powder Hair Colour for containing sodium perborate,” reports Philippine Daily Inquirer.
As the UK product recall notification pointed out, “Sodium perborate is toxic if inhaled, causes serious eye damage, is harmful if swallowed and may cause respiratory irritation. It may damage fertility or the unborn child.”
