According to the the National Solid Waste Management Commission, Metro Manila produces 8,600 tons of garbage daily.
That’s why the EcoWaste Coalition is alarmed.
“The environmental group has called on all incoming barangay officials to give priority to waste disposal programs in their respective communities,” reports Chito A. Chavez in the Manila Bulletin.
According to Aileen Lucero, national coordinator of EcoWaste Coalition, the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act remains inadequately enforced, even though the law was signed in 2000.
