Off-duty cop stops heist, shoots dead 2 robbers

It’s wrong to be happy about anyone dying, but we can’t help but feel relieved that a pair of riding-in-tandem criminals are now dead.

Police Officer 2 Cesar Tolentino—who is assigned at Station Investigation Division Management Section in Caloocan City Police Station—was not on duty when he was at a gas station on Sunday night, August 17.

However, he sprang into action when two men on a motorcycle arrived at the Orange Fuel Gas station along Quirino Highway and declared a robbery.

The gasoline boy alerted Tolentino when one man got off the motorcycle and threatened the cashier.

“Tolentino approached the suspects, introduced himself as a police officer and ordered the two to surrender. However, the suspects boarded the motorcycle and tried to flee while the back rider fired at the cop, who retaliated and hit the two,” reports Dennis Carcamo on Philstar.com.

The suspects were rushed by responding policemen to the East Avenue Medical Center but they were later pronounced dead by the attending physician.

The report added that “police recovered a caliber.38 revolver loaded with four live ammunition and two fired cartridge cases on its cylinder.”
