Singer-actor Ice Seguerra said today that he resigned as chairperson of the National Youth Commission (NYC) effective April 5.

Seguerra, who supported President Rodrigo Duterte during the 2016 elections, cited “personal reasons,” for his resignation in his meeting with the president last week. He did not specify what these reasons were.

“He was very understanding and supportive of my decision. He was like a father. He listened, understood, and gave me encouraging words. I told him how much I valued his trust and how this experience made me appreciate public service and our public servants,” Seguerra said in a Facebook post.

“Thank you for believing in me and for making my chairmanship, as short as it may have been, one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life.”

Seguerra was appointed NYC chairperson in August 2016. He was supposed to serve until 2019.

The Office of the Executive Secretary has received Seguerra’s resignation letter, said Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

Seguerra, a musician and actor, came out as a transgender man in 2014.

He also asked the public to call him Ice in 2017, after years of going by the name Aiza.

Established in 1995, the NYC is a policy-making body on youth affairs under the Office of the President.
