Duterte’s son speaks up on Mar’s ‘drugs in Davao’ statement

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has said that he doesn’t have enough campaign funds, but he has one asset that may win him more votes.

“Sebastian Duterte — the youngest son of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte — defended his father amid the claim of Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas that illegal drugs remained prevalent in Davao City,” reports Carmel Loise Matus in Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The report recalled that “Roxas said he knew where to buy illegal drugs in Davao City, which according to him ranked fourth highest in crime incidence in the country.”

Sebastian or “Baste” was in Cebu City for the launching of the Cebu for Duterte Movement on Wed morning, Feb 24. In defense of his father, Baste said in Cebuano, “The problem of illegal drugs cannot be totally eliminated. There were times when the city was cleaned of the menace following the arrest of the drug pushers. But another group would try to sell drugs in Davao.”

However, he said, “But if the drug pushers are hardheaded, we are more hardheaded in facing them.”

The report noted: “Baste holds a Political Science from the Ateneo de Davao.” He’s said to be the most low-key among the mayor’s adult children. He has refused to run for any position.
