Duterte’s national campaign manager declines Cabinet post

Now, this is the kind of delicadeza we expect from everyone else!

Leoncio Evasco Jr. — the mayor of Maribojoc, Bohol who served as the national campaign manager of incoming President Rodrigo Duterte — declined the offer to serve in the Cabinet of the incoming administration.

“On Wed evening, May 18, Evaso said he appreciated the offer to be the secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Governments (DILG) but stressed he was not interested in a Cabinet seat.  Nevertheless, he said he would remain available to help Duterte in a low-key capacity wherever his skills and capacities would be applicable,” reports Karlos Manlupig in Philippine Daily Inquirer.

In a statement, Evasco said, “To be nominated or shortlisted for the secretary of interior and local government would be a great honor for me, since not all will be given the chance to lead the department. [But] I would like to clarify that I am not, and will not be interested in any Cabinet post. I will always be grateful for the offer, and I will always serve our newly elected president and the Filipino people in some other way, based on my capacity and skills.”

The report noted: “Evasco, a former rebel who later became Davao city government administrator under Duterte before becoming a mayor in the town of Maribojoc town in Bohol, vowed to continue his work in public service.”
