Dear Mayor Duterte, we’ll gladly count your cuss words for you.
On Friday afternoon, Pope-swearin’ Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte informed his many Facebook followers about his meeting with Archbishop Romulo Valles, Bishop George Rimando, together with Monsignor Paul Cuison and his executive assistant Bong Go.
“I was admonished and lectured on my Christian values,” he notes.
In reparation for his sins, Duterte promised he “would lessen my use of cuss words.”
To prove he is serious, Duterte says he will donate PHP1,000 to Caritas Davao for every cuss word said.
“He even urged reporters to do the counting for him,” writes Nico Alconaba on Inquirer.net.
Alas, “even before the ambush interview with Duterte was over, he uttered two curse words,” notes Alconaba.
Duterte considers the meeting “good” and thanked the Church leaders for their time.
“I am also planning to visit the Vatican soon,” he adds.
On Monday, he swore at the Pope, shocking and then irking way too many people. His supporters quickly issued an apology, explaining it wasn’t the Pope Duterte was swearing at, but the incompetent government officials who couldn’t handle the traffic when the Pope was here in January.
Later on Tuesday, he released a statement explaining his controversial statement.
