He says some reporters misunderstood his “joke.”
“When Mayor Rodrigo Duterte was asked to clarify if he declared his intention to run for president during his Listening Tour on Federalism in Dagupan City, he indicated that he said no such thing,” reports Philippine News Agency’s Lilian C. Mellejor on InterAksyon.com.
In an interview with reporters on Wed night, Feb 25, at Davao City’s Grand Men Seng Hotel Duterte’s words: “Hindi (No). I never said it in a very categorical way.”
The report noted: “Duterte said it was supposed to be a joke, emphasizing that the reporters (in Dagupan City) do not really know him.”
The “joke” that Duterte was referring to would have to be his quip on “saving the republic.”

Duterte added: “Give me an interview where I said I will run. I don’t like it. It does not appeal to me until now.”
Duterte then said that he’s going to support Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago for President.
Duterte then quipped, “If you think I am the only one who can save this nation, look for me, if I am not there, look for me if you can.”
