Some people are just plain hardheaded.

“After noting some violations of the firecracker ban in the recently ended New Year revelry, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is planning to revive the reward system for those offering information on  violators,” reports GMA News Online.

The report noted: “Davao City has an executive order signed in 2001 and an ordinance in 2002 that effectively bans firecrackers in the city.”

The system stipulates that those who tell on the firecracker users will get a PHP5,000 reward.

Duterte added that “the reward also applies to information on those who fire their guns indiscriminately to welcome the New Year.”

The mayor was also quoted as saying, “If I find out that there was a death because of the firecracker and you sold the product, I will look for you and charge you not only for the ordinance but also for the life that was lost.”

Duterte’s stance is understandable. The report revealed that “in the recently concluded New Year celebration, a barangay kagawad and two others were arrested after they were caught using fireworks.”
