On Tue, Apr 19, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte was at the University of the Philippines Visayas in Iloilo City where he spoke at a forum.
In an ambush interview at the same venue, he was asked about his daughter Sara Duterte’s revelation that she was a rape victim.
Si Inday ma-rape man (Inday got raped)?” he said. “Nagdadala ng baril yun (She brings a gun). I don’t know. I refuse to comment. Di naman niya sinabi sa ‘kin yun (She didn’t tell me about it).”
A Philippine Daily Inquirer report added that Duterte later called Sara a “drama queen” in his speech at the forum.
Sara made the revelation amid controversy arising from Mayor Duterte’s remark about Australian missionary Jacqueline Hamill, who was raped and murdered during the hostage-taking incident at the Davao Penal Colony back in 1989.
InterAksyon.com quoted Sara as saying, “I experienced it. I take no offense sa joke na yun kung joke man talaga yun (I take no offense at the joke if that was really a joke). People were asking me to explain or comment on his apparent joke… Sinasabi ko lang na parang, hindi makakaapekto yung pagiging joker niya sa performance niya (I’m just saying that his joker persona doesn’t affect his performance).”
