Duterte ‘proclaimed’ by supporters in Davao City

Incoming president Rodrigo Duterete skipped his proclamation in Congress on Monday afternoon, May 30.

So what did his supporters do? Using a standee and their own Philippine flag, they staged their own proclamation in front of Duterete’s residence in Doña Luisa Village, Ecoland.

Ken Basic, 33, administered the proclamation himself. He said that he wanted to to “give his President-elect a chance to be duly proclaimed for leading the May 9 national elections,” Philippine Daily Inquirer reports.

Napagkatuwaan naming magbabarkada na gumawa ng flag, pumunta rito at kami na lang mag-proclaim sa kanya. People’s voice naman kaya siya naging presidente, kaya kami na nag-proclaim sa kanya, (My friends and I decided to make a flag, go here and administer his staged proclamation. It’s the people voice which elected him as president that’s why we decided to administer his staged proclamation.)” said Basic.

Christopher “Bong” Go, Duterte’s chief aide, explained that the incoming president decided to skip his proclamation in Congress to do his duties as mayor.

“He is doing his chores as mayor of Davao. Madami pa (There are many) documents for signature,” Go said.

In a joint session, Congress proclaimed Camarines Sur Rep. Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo of the Liberal Party as vice president-elect.

Duterte won as president with 16,601,997 votes in the official count, over six million more than the votes of his closest rivel, the Liberal Party candidate Manuel “Mar” Roxas II.
