Just last week, President Rodrigo Duterte blamed his skin discoloration on his partner Honeylet Avanceña’s facial cream. This week, he thought of another possible reason: karma.

And yes, the president is still talking about his skin.

In a speech yesterday at the Philippine Quality Award Conferment Ceremony, Duterte joked that the discoloration was the universe’s payback for his sins. He also unabashedly called himself a “killer” and an evil person.

Should he be thanked for being honest?

It may seem all superficial but Filipinos have been wondering why the president’s complexion has changed over the past few months. Duterte first said his skin got burned after he chose to ditch sunscreen then later blamed it all on using his partner’s skincare product. But to say that it was caused by karma for his past misdeeds? So far that’s gotta be the most creative explanation he has given.

Duterte mentioned his skin discoloration when he had a hard time saying the word “organization” in yesterday’s speech, reported the Manila Bulletin.

He said: “I commend the organize, organize, organizer, organi, organi…”

As his audience laughed at his inability to pronounce the word, he suddenly said: “I’m conscious of darkening face that’s full of….”

He later said that the discoloration may have been caused by his misdeeds. “My sunburn has been here for a long time. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s karma.”

The president is possibly referring to his bloody drug war which has killed thousands. Members of the country’s police force usually say that drug suspects were shot because they allegedly fought back, but reports show that that’s not always true.

Duterte’s truth bombs didn’t stop there. GMA News and Radyo Inquirer reported that in his speech yesterday during the conferment of the National Artist Awards, he confessed that he’s evil.

“I’m evil. I’m a killer, most especially,” he said.

Give the man a standing ovation, folks.

Duterte is not alone in obsessing over his complexion. His nemesis Communist Party of the Philippines founder Jose Maria Sison claimed in a Facebook post that the facial discoloration was the “symptom of a kidney problem, an indication of renal failure.”
