Duterte has no Cabinet post for Leni yet, will pick those close to him first

Maybe he wants to make sure that they’re on the same page first.

In the not-so-distant past, incoming President Rodrigo Duterte was allegedly thinking of which Cabinet post to give to incoming Vice President Leni Robredo.

This was expressed by Duterte’s running mate, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, who said, “Mayor Duterte is reviewing everyday names and positions [in the Cabinet], and I think from Day 1 he has been thinking about what [job can] be given the Vice President-elect.”

In a Philippine Daily Inquirer report, Duterte was quoted as saying, “What would be a nice-sounding job?”

However, it had been reported by The Philippine Star that on Sat night, May 28, when Duterte was asked if he would give Robredo a Cabinet position, he answered, “That never entered my mind.”

Duterte added, “(There are) party guys loyal to me all along, and maybe who are also — in a way, or who were, for one reason or another — a factor in my win in the presidency. I shouldn’t be looking beyond my borders yet.”

Duterte is the chair of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), while Robredo is a member of the Liberal Party (LP).
